Make-up Trend: Plum Eyes, Lips and Nails

Looking plum-licious on this month's issue of Verve India, was none other than Lara Dutta. To recreate her all plum look, apply a plum-brown eye shadow from your upper lash lines to just above the crease (it really makes dark brown eyes pop!). Apply black eyeliner along your upper lashes and inner rims, and smudge a slate gray eye shadow onto your lower lashes. Apply two to three coats of mascara to your lashes. For the cheeks, dab a peach cream blush on the apples of your cheeks, and blend toward your temples. Before the lipstick apply a moisturizing balm to keep the lip color from bleeding. Then, beginning from the center, use a lip brush to apply a matte, deep plum lipstick. For the nails, apply a few coats of a deep plum nail polish to get a high-gloss and glam effect.

Make-up Trend: Grungy Smoky Eyes

At a special screening for I Hate Luv Storys, Sonam Kapoor sported some grungy smoky eyes. To get her look, blend a matte black and a shimmery gray eye shadow over your lids with a small eye-shadow brush, starting at your lashes and moving just beyond the crease. With the brush, line your lower lashes with the same color combination. Starting at the inner corner of your eye, trace a line of black eye liner along your upper lashes. Leave the lashes bare. Finish off with a pale pink lipstick.

Make-up Trend: Under Eye Smoky Eye

In the pages of the latest issue of Vogue India, Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan was seen in an innovative application of eye shadow. Rather than sweeping it across her lids, make-up artist Mickey Contractor kept her eyes neutral and dabbed a metallic slate eye shadow under her bottom lashline with a silvery white shadow in her inner corners. It's simple and smoky in an unexpected and undeniably sexy way.

Make-up Trend: Violet Eye Shadow

If you have a creamy skin tone like Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's, a violet shadow may actually be used as a neutral shadow. On the sets of her new movie Robot, her amethyst hue, worn just above the crease, was both subtle and striking. Apply sparingly, and choose a shade with a hint of shimmer to really work the look.

Make-up Trend: Soft Peachy Eyes

"We kept the colors fresh and peachy to create a natural, easy look for Anushka Dandekar to go with the beachy aspect of the shoot," said makeup artist Subhash Vagal. He brushed iridescent nectarine shadow on the upper lid. He then blended it up softly past the socket but not as far as the brow. A swipe of warm taupe shadow on the crease and below the lower lashes added depth and definition. Finally, a thin line of liquid liner along the top lashline finished her look. "The black liner made the green of her eyes really pop," said Subhash.

Make-up Trend: The Perfect Lipstick

At the launch of the 3 Idiots Script Book, Kareena Kapoor had fresh, understated makeup—but what makes her look flawless is her impeccably perfect lipcolor. To make sure your lipstick goes on evenly and stays put, use lip liner as a basecoat. If you're wearing a light hue, like Kareena, try a nude liner, which won't muddy your lipstick. Finish with a swipe of sheer balm or lip gloss for a touch shine.

Both techniques will keep your liner right where you want it.

Instyle: Freida Pinto's Favorite Looks of Herself [May 2010]

No-Fuss Glamour
Freida says: "I like that this look is really clean makeup and an easy updo. And it's one of my favorites because it's a me-look—something I could do myself. Well, I could pin my hair up, but obviously I could never curl it like that."
Shiny Hair and Dewy Skin
Freida says: "More could have been done here—maybe a little more kohl? I just feel the look was lacking something in the eyes. Overall, though, the hair and the skin were done up really well. They've both got a little shine which goes well with the fabric of the dress.

Wispy Updo
Freida says: "Normally I keep it really safe, but that night I experimented with my hair—I quite enjoyed it actually. The overall look was meant to be simple, but the hair was meant to be fabulous."

Intense Eyes
Freida says: "The Screen Actors Guild Awards! That was probably my favorite look ever. The hair was all pulled back and as slick as possible and the eyes were dramatized, but just a wee bit. This look showed off more of me than styles where my hair covers my face. And the makeup was just fabulous."
Super Long Strands
"When I see this picture, I miss my hair length. This picture touches me. Now my hair is much shorter. I tried a pink babydoll mouth that night because the rest of the hair and makeup was so open and simple. I quite liked it actually."
Elegant Neutrals
Freida says: "I like the colors I chose to play with. I think with my skintone, nudes are very complementary. The only problem was the hair—it did not remain the way it was styled because of the texture. I’ve got a lot of hair but it’s really fine. When I left the hotel, the curls at the bottom were tighter, but by the time I reached the ceremony, they just opened up. My hair was being funny. Nothing much can be done about that."
Stress-free Hair
Freida says: "This picture was just me being me. I did not know what the red carpet was all about. I left my makeup and hair in the hands of people who knew what they wanted to do. It was an easy updo—one where you wake up, pin your hair up and walk out of the house. Which is why it matches my personality. I don’t really stress too much about my hair or my makeup."

Make-up Trend: Sultry Smoky Eyes

Looking casual, yet chic on this month's issue of Vogue India is none other than Deepika Padukone. MAC's Mickey Contractor focused on a smudged, smoky kohl eye, "We aimed for a not-so-perfect look, a little messy." To get her look, line your upper and lower lashes with a creamy black pencil. Apply dark charcoal powder shadow on your lids. Add a shimmery ivory shadow in your inner corners and brow bone. Mickey contrasted that with a nude lip and gives us a key tip to achieve this look, "Use concealer with lipgloss for the perfect nude lip which is huge this season."
