Make-up Trend: Smoky, Silver Eyes

Nothing adds a twinkle to the eyes like a hint of silver. On May's issue of Cine Blitz, Priyanka Chopra sported iridescent charcoal shadow finished with a fine line of black along the inner rims of her eyes.

Makeup on the lower lashline usually migrates down the face, resulting in a messy morning morning-after look. Get your sultry shadow to stay put like Priyanka's using a liquid formula, like Chanel Ombre D'eau, which dries into a longwear powder using polymers.

Beauty Confessions: Dirty Girl!

Last week, I confessed to you that I commit a beauty sin: I wash my hair each and every day.

Well, now I need to make another confession: Even though I know better, I don't always wash my face before going to bed at night. Yes, I admit it. Sometimes I fall asleep with my makeup on. I hang my head in shame.

According to professionals, not washing your face leaves makeup and other environmental gunk that you pick up during the day clinging to your skin. All this yucky stuff can lead to clogged pores which means that zits and blackheads could erupt all over your face just because you're too tired to wash your face.

Even though I sometimes skip the all important step of washing my face with warm water and a gentle cleanser, I almost always try to use a facial wipe, like Boot's No. 7 Quick Thinking 4-in-1 Wipes to get my makeup off.

How about you? Do you wash your face every night, or do you fall asleep with the morning's mascara caked in your lashes? Let me know....leave a comment!

Head on over to Sephora and check out these natural products that will result in good face:

Boscia Oil-Free Hydration SPF 15: this is the perfect way to start your natural routine. The moisturizer is balanced so that it effectively banishes shiny T-zone areas, making it the ideal base for makeup.

Jurlique Purely Age-Defying Eye Cream:
Designed for use both morning and night, this eye cream reinvigorates tired-looking eyes. The expert formula brightens and smooths the contour of the eye, reducing dark circles, puffiness, and lines for a more refreshed look.

Caudalie Vinoperfect Radiance Serum:
This highly concentrated oil-free serum is designed to improve the appearance of dark spots, giving you even-toned, radiant skin.

REN Glycilactic Skin Renewal Peel Mask

Make-up Trend: Flattering Eyebrows

Fake an eyelift with expertly shaped brows: a little snip here and a pluck there can take five years off your age, making your eyes appear larger and more open. Plus, well-shaped brows highlight your bone structure and open your face. The best part? No recovery time!

To get Kareena's perfectly manicured arches, comb brows upward using a fine-tooth eyebrow comb. Next, carefully trim any hairs that poke above your browline. Tweeze away errant hairs and fill in any holes with light brown eye shadow.

Be a Natural Beauty at Sephora!

First off, thanks so much to all of you who have left comments about the how much we are eco-conscious when making our cosmetics purchases. Sounds like you all are a lot like me. You know you should care more than you actually do. It's hard to make the switch to more natural products, but it's getting easier all the time...especially if you're willing to pay a little more for your products.

The good folks over at Sephora are, of course, helping make us all more naturally beautiful by offering up numerous "eco-chic" products. Here are some to check out:

GET AN EASY ECO-CHIC LOOK
Let's go back to basics. When we think about natural beauty, we think of perfectly clear skin. But you can also punch up the color and embrace the classically natural.

  1. Prep your skin with a face primer like Korres Silicone Free Face Primer ($28). It is an innovative formula of soothing natural botanical ingredients that refine the skin texture by reducing redness and uneven or dull skin tones. The primer creates a non-oily silky film that acts as a barrier between the skin and makeup to reveal flawless, long-lasting skin.
  2. Follow up with Tarte ReCreate Foundation ($37). An anti-aging foundation with Wrinkle Rewind technology and SPF 15 that protects from UVA/UVB rays, this foundation provides medium to full coverage while hydrating and brightening.
  3. To finish in a flash, swipe on Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes! ($18). Referred to as a push-up bra for lashes, this four-in-one (lengthening, curling, volumizing, and conditioning) dermatologists and clinically tested mascara presents a sexy fringe to compliment your dewy complexion. Now you have an effortlessly eco-chic look.
  4. If you're craving more color on your face, take your eco-chic look one step further and try out some of the bright colors in Sephora's Pure Natural 7-Color Palette ($36). This is a multipurpose palette that comes with three trendy shadow colors, three basic brown shadow colors, and a blush that will have you creating vibrant looks from day to night.
I'll be back tomorrow with more eco-chic products that will make your skin look even more flawless and radiant! In the meantime, I'll be trying out many of the products listed here and will be sure to report back soon!

Peter Andre Hair

Peter Andre Hair - 2009 Celebrity Hairstyles

Peter Andre, one half of the infamous Katie and Peter due to his recent marriage to glamour model, Katie Price or Jordan as she is better known, was once famous in his own right due to a six pack to die for, a cheesy pop song and a killer hairstyle. He is still the same tanned Peter with the six pack that we loved back then, but these days he has gone for a more grown up style for his hair and this is one that suits him rather well.

Peter Andre with
Katie Price

In the days of Mysterious Girl, Peter adorned a wonderful set of curtains, a look that was popular among young lads all over the world. Slightly greasy looking and very slick in nature, this was a look that sent the hearts racing of young girls everywhere but it was short lived and after this song release, we did not hear from Peter for a while after.

Peter Andre Blonde Haircut

He is now back with a vengeance with a hairstyle that has been left still slightly longer but with the famous curtains gone and a more sophisticated look in their place. Long at the top and short at the back and sides, he has a tendency to spike the hair in a manner with hair styling products for a look that is manageable, cute and still very sexy.

Peter Andre Latest Dark Haircut

So, although the sexy curtains are gone like the fashion sense he had at the time, (remember those abs in the water?) he still has what it takes with the new and more mature style and is still adorning the walls of young girls as we speak.

Stripes

I tried out another type of design yesterday - started like with a normal eyeliner, and then winging it across my lid, leaving a gap between and winging it up to my browbone from the outer corner as well.I filled in the space in the middle with Lime Crime Nymph, and then drew a graduation in blue/purple (Tempting Hansel), teal (steamy) and Nymph (white w/ gold iridescence), deepening and blending the lines with MAC Carbon. I wish I had taken a more red-based purple, but this was the first time I used Tempting Hansel and I did not know yet how it would come out on my lids...

Harper's Bazaar Tells Us Katrina Kaif and Priyanka Chopra's Beauty Secrets

One of the hottest actresses in Bollywood, Katrina Kaif opens up her beauty bag to share all the products she can't live without and the beauty routines she follows religiously, but says the real secret behind her fresh, luminous looks is being 'natural'.

  • What's your makeup routine?
There is no makeup 'routine'… When I am not shooting, I prefer to stay away from any embellishments. But yes, I always keep bare essentials, such as lip balm, at hand.

  • And for the big night out?
I don't use a heavy hand while doing makeup but I do pay a little more attention to my eyes when it's a big night. Doing up your eyes well makes you look fresh and alive.

  • What are your favorite products?
I don't have any favorites. What matters to me is that the product has to be from a reputed company. There has to be a certain amount of credibility. I feel that even if it may work out a bit more expensive, it's worth it.

  • What's your favorite perfume?
When I shop for perfumes (invariably in duty-free stores, while I'm traveling), I check out the new fragrances and pick up whatever catches my fancy me wearing makeup from morning to evening. Even if your lifestyle doesn't necessarily involve makeup, it's very important to use a good cleanser to remove the day's grime. Another well-known trick is to consume the right amount of water-it keeps your skin glowing.

KATRINA'S FAVORITES
  • How do you keep your hair looking so good?
My hair suffers quite a bit, thanks to the number of products that are used during shoots to style it. I try and take care of it by using serums or going for a hair spa. I get my hair trimmed from a good hairdresser once a month. In Mumbai, I go to Asif Rajan, Dilshad Pastakia or Sapna Bhavnani.

  • Do you have a special diet?
I'm not sure if you could call it a 'diet' but I do try and eat right. When I say eat right, I mean eating the right foods, in right quantities, at the right time. If you follow this mantra, you're sure to be not just in better shape but also feel much healthier from within.

  • What's your DIY beauty routine?
The only one I adhere to religiously is 'take off your makeup' before you hit the bed. It helps tremendously!

  • One simple trick that makes you look fabulous?
The way you look, honestly, has a lot to do with how you feel. When you are calm within, the smile naturally comes easier on the face.
Fragrances are a must for Priyanka. Is it the lipstick, cream, mascara, hair color or foundation? Or is it her infectious smile that lights up her face and brings a sparkle to her eyes? Priyanka opens up about beauty routines, favorite products and how she always looks fabulous.

  • What is your daily makeup and beauty routine?
Cleanse, tone and moisturize-nothing works better for me. As an actor, I'm required to wear a lot of makeup, whether it's for films, photo-shoots or appearances. So when I'm not working, my routine is very basic. The things that I carry with me at all times are my Pond's Perfect Results Multi-Benefit Cream and M.A.C Studio Fix.

  • And what about the big night out?
When I'm not making a public appearance, I use absolutely minimal makeup and spice it up with eyeliner, blush and lipstick. I slip on a sexy short dress and high heels, and I'm set!
  • Any favorite perfumes?
Smelling good is a must, no matter where you are or what you're doing. My current preference is Dolce & Gabbana The One, but my all time favorite is Ralph Lauren Romance.

  • How do you take care of your flawless skin?
Quite simple-cleanse, tone and moisturize. On my days off, I don't do much; I just allow my skin to breathe. I also drink lots of water and never forget my multi-vitamins. I think it's important to pamper your skin as often as you can. My crazy schedule doesn't allow me the luxury very often, but I try and get in a facial whenever possible.
  • What do you do for your hair?
Because of my profession, my hair is battered and abused. Given the trauma I put my hair through, I give it extra care. I oil my hair regularly and condition it as well. I trim my hair once in about two months or as and when I feel the need. I have different hairstylists for various films, but primarily they are Minal Sharma and Kanta Motwani.

PRIYANKA'S FAVORITES
  • Any favorite hair products?
    Anything that is Sunsilk.

  • Do you have a special diet to stay so slim?
It's called good genetics and a great metabolism. Honestly, I am a complete foodie and a junk-a-holic. Diets don't work for me. I try and eat healthy most of the time but also don't stop myself from eating what I feel like, whether it's a pepperoni pizza or aloo paratha!

  • One simple trick that makes you fabulous?
Comfort, and knowing what suits you- the fit, style and look-whether it's hair, clothes or makeup. What are you buying for this season? I never have an agenda. I just pick up what I like.

Make-up Trend: Flattering Red Lipstick

Manufacturers produce hundreds of varieties of red shades. Some are orangey, others have a hint of purple. Some have flecks of metallic, others are matte. Finding a flattering shade can be a stressful endeavor, but we have a solution!

Mughda Godse got it right. She has warm-skin and looks best in silver jewelry, so she chose a blue-based berry red. If you look better in gold jewelry, opt for a orange-based red.

Beauty Product of the Week: Exact Eyelights

What is it? Cover Girl's Exact Eyelights mascara uses "(a) unique eye brightening formula combined with the patented No Clump brush technology (to) bring out the color of your eyes and give you gorgeous clump-free lashes!" Available in several different colors depending on the color of your eye (I tried out Black Sapphire) at drugstores for about $7.50.

What did you think? It's well documented that I am a mascara fan. I love trying out new formulas, but I must admit I was a little cautious with this one. Why? Because I have a weird anti-Cover Girl mindset. I don't like that Cover Girl continues to test on animals, and I'm not wild about their sponsorship of America's Next Top Model (because I don't like a lot of product placement in my trash TV, mind you!). However, I set my personal prejudices aside and still test out CG products from time to time...plus I think CG's pressed powder is unbeatable--but that's another post for another time.

Anyway, CG's Exact Eyelights are supposed to pop the color of your eyes. I applied a coat to around my baby blues and...? Nothing. My lashes didn't clump, so that's the good news. The bad news? My lashes didn't look thicker or longer. And my eyes didn't look anymore blue than normal. Ok...so I tried another coat and still? Nothing. I missed the definition that my blackest black mascara gives to my eyes.

The final verdict? Skip it. Seriously, there are so many better mascaras on the market that don't cost a ton of money. Sadly, this one does not deserve further consideration. My bias against Cover Girl products (other than their pressed powder) remains. Sorry.

Make-up Trend: Navy Smoky Eyes

Royal blue is all the rage, and like our very own Queen B, Bipasha Basu shows it with varying shades of deep indigo on her eyes. Intense metallic navy eye makeup brightens the whites of your eyes, a glamorous take on basic black rims.

There's a fine line between thick cat eyes and Bipasha's subtle yet exotic look. To create a precise line, trim a fine-point liner brush down so that only a couple of hairs remain and carefully trace along your lashlines, then blend smoky navy shadow all the way to the crease, make sure you blend any harsh lines.

India Today- Woman's Beauty Pages

  1. How do you get the perfect smoky eyes?
Apply a light shade of concealer all over the top lid. Then apply a light eye shadow in a neutral tone with a larger brush all over the eye. Follow it up with a dar eye shadow over the eye lids and blend it properly towards the crease. Apply liner and smudge it. Finish the look of with mascara.
  2. What would be a good everyday make-up routine for a natural look?
Use a concealer and pressed powder all over the face. Then follow by, a neutral eye shadow and eyeliner. Apply blush to the apples of the cheeks. Finish off with mascara and lip gloss.

  3. Should the lip liner and lipstick be the same color?
Your lip liner should be neutral in color or match the shade of your lipstick. It should not be darker so that if the lipstick fades, all you have left is a ring of liner around your lips.

  4. What is the best evening make-up regime?
Stick to natural colors as unnaturally bright eye shadows make you look older. Go for smoky eyes for a dramatic look, enhance your lashes for a doe eyed effect. Use blushes and lipsticks that suit your skin tone and with lipstick make sure they don't make your teeth look dull and yellow. Do not match your lip color, that would be too matchy-matchy, a hint of color from your outfit on your eyes (or lips) looks sophisticated. When doing dramatic eyes keep the lip neutral and likewise if you're doing bold lips one down the eyes.

  5. How do I make my eyes look bigger?
Apply concealer on the top lid of the eyes, then using an eyeliner, trace the inside rim of your upper eyelashes. Dot the eyeliner between the lashes and create a line on the top of the outermost half of your eyelid. A thick line makes your eyes small. Trace the inside of your lower last line with the eyeliner, connecting it to the inner corners of your eye. Apply mascara to the upper lashes, then use mascara on the outer corner of your top eyelashes to widen your eyes.

  6. What is the perfect red for desi skin?
The perfect shades of red for desi skin would be deep red, burgundy, winem coral and peach.

  7. How do you make thin lips look fuller?
Apply concealer and foundation on your existing lip lines. Draw lines using lip liner slightly above the natural top line and above along your bottom line. Now, apply color to the entire lip and then apply lipstick from the center of your lips. Follow it up with gloss that should be applied to the center of the lip.

  8. How do you apply blush properly?
Start just below the apple of your cheeks, then sweep the blush upwards and outwards along your cheek bone.

  9. How do you use sun screen with make-up?
Apply a thin coat of sunscreen on your face. Once it has soaked into your skin, dab off the excess cream. Now, use foundation with SPF for added protection.

  10. How do you get long and healthy nails?
Bathe your nails in salt water as it makes them stronger. After 10 to 15 minutesm use a manicure set to remove the cuticles. Be careful not to cut into your nail bed. Use a nail buffer and nail file to shape your nails. Apple a cuticle cream, massaging it into your nails. You can also use a vitamin E oil or cream for your nails. Make sure you carry a nail file or buffer so that you can quickly file you nails in case they break or chip to prevent further damage.

  11. How do you cover under-eye dark circles?
Apply eye cream under your eyes, then dab concealer, applying it over the dark circles. Apply foundation, but only a fine layer. Use an eye shadow that will lessen the dark shade under your eyes.

  12. How do you make a round face look thinner?
Apply your normal shade of foundation then use a bronxer that is a shade darker than your skin tone, running the brush along your jaw line. Contour your temples brushing up and out. Use bronzer along the hollow areas of your cheeks for an angular look. Put a soft blush on the apples of your cheeks and at the highest point of your cheekbones apply a sheer highlighter. Now lightly dust translucent powder on your face for an airbrushed touch.

  13. What are the best colors for the Indian skin tone
The best color for Indian skin tone are browns, deep brick redm plum burgundy, copper, beige and orange.

  14. How do you get rid of a shiny house?
When you are applying moisturizer to the face, avoid the nose. Instead use make-up primers or moisturizers that have mattifying properties as it will keep the shine off the nose for long hours. Use powder for your nose, but make sure the finish looks natural.

  15. How do you hide a hickey or a pimple?
Put ice on it right away and the size of the hickey/pimple will reduce. Now, yse a green cream concealer as it will either hide it completely or at least make it a little less noticeable. Apply a thick layer of foundation, blending it into the entire neck (for hickeys) or part of the face (where the pimple is) and top it with some powder. Make sure you use a shade slightly darker than your skin tone.

I could give you tips on how to be a more green consumer, but I think we all know about reducing, recycling, and reusing. I could be cheeky and talk about all the cool green (as in green colored) products you could pick from, but St. Patty's Day just came and went.

I want to talk about something fresh, something new. But I am having a tough time trying to figure out what that would be.

This is going to sound terribly jaded or out-of-touch, but I don't always consider the environmental impact of my beauty purchases as much as I probably should. Since I'm a makeup blogger, I feel that I need to try all kinds of different products, so I know I am consuming more makeup than the average girl. And yes, I know that it is wasteful and unnecessary. But then makeup, by its very nature, is somewhat wasteful and unnecessary.

The big issue for me is animal testing. I prefer to buy products that are not tested on animals whenever possible. I see no reason why animals should suffer for me to look good. That said, I know that some of the brands I buy are on PETA's naughty list.

I don't know....it seems tough to always shop your conscious...as terrible as that sounds (and I know it sounds awful).

Instead of prolonging this post's agony, I'm going to turn it over to you. I ask you the following:

  • How much do you consider the environmental impact of your beauty purchase when you're shopping?
  • Do you try to buy products that don't have excess packaging?
  • Do you try to buy products that are not tested on animals?
  • Do you try to buy products that do not contain harsh chemicals?
  • How much does any of it matter to you?
Leave me a comment and help me out here. I'll pick a random answer and will give that person a Good Karma kit from Lush. (Sorry: this one's open to US residents only, though if you're not in the US, I'd still love to hear your thoughts.) You have til next Tuesday to give me your input.

Make-up Trend: Shiny Blush

We typically avoid strong illuminator for fear of looking like we just ran a marathon. Neha Oberoi gave her cheeks a rosy shine and made it work by balancing it with an otherwise matte complexion.

To create Neha's radiant cheeks, blend a deep pink blush into cheeks and up towards the temples. Next sweep an ivory gold powder from the center of the apples of the cheeks and around to your browbones in a C-shape.

Beauty Confessions: Lather Junkie

Let's be honest...we all have bad beauty habits that are almost impossible to break. Since we're not perfect people, and because I think it's interesting to discuss flaws rather than perfection, I'm going to discuss some of the more common beauty bad habits over the next few weeks.

This week, it's all about the hair.

I've fessed up to it before, and I'm not afraid to say it again: I wash my hair every single day. I know I'm not supposed to...I hear that it's supposedly washes away all the good oils, fades out my dye job, blah, blah, blah. But you know what? I could care less! When I don't wash my hair, it seems oily and gross on day two.

I tend to wince when a hairdresser asks me how often I shampoo. I know the right answer is "oh, just every other day," but I cannot lie. "I wash every day," I say with a slight nervous inflection in my voice. I don't know what I'm fearing. It's not like my stylist is going to beat me with a flat iron because I'm a lather-junkie. Thankfully, the past two stylists I've seen understand my addiction, because they both told me that they shampoo daily as well. Ah, sweet vindication!

In my humble opinion, if your hair needs to be washed daily, then go ahead and wash it. Why should you feel and look like a complete grease-ball just because "they" say you should only shampoo a few times a week? Daily shampoo rebels unite!

It seems to me that people with fine hair need to shampoo more regularly. Otherwise it just looks stringy and heavy...not good. But those with thicker, curlier hair may benefit from less frequent washing.

Now, if you're trying to reform your bad girl ways, here's my advice: try not washing your hair on a day when you don't have anyone to impress. But I do have a question to all you good girls out there: on days when you don't wash your hair, do you get it wet? Or do you use a shower cap? I never know what the right answer is and would love to hear from the rest of you on this.

Also, if you have any bad beauty habits, tell me about them! It's nice to know that there are other people breaking the rules out there!
